Neonatal Transition Assessment

APGAR Score Calculator

Quantify neonatal cardiopulmonary adaptation at 1, 5, and 10 minutes of life, aligned with Canadian Paediatric Society and NRP guidelines.

Score of 9/10 at 1 minute(s). Confirms excellent physiological cardiopulmonary transition. 1-minute scores of 8 or 9 are typical (points almost universally deducted for benign acrocyanosis).

NRP Resuscitation Protocol

Keep infant skin-to-skin directly on mother's bare chest under warm dry blankets.
Support delayed cord clamping (>= 60 seconds) if not already completed.
Initiate first breast crawl and lactation latch within the first hour of life.
Conduct routine newborn exam and vitals monitoring q15min for the first hour.
Clinical Pearl: Virginia Apgar

The APGAR score is an index of physiological depression at a single point in time. It was NEVER intended to determine when resuscitation begins (which must occur within the first 60 seconds) nor to predict long-term neurological outcome.
